Why We Chose the Name Mizmaar

In Arabic, a mizmar is a wind instrument — something like a flute. But the word carries a deeper meaning: a voice so beautiful and melodious that it captivates not only people, but even the birds and the creation around it.

One night, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ passed by the home of his companion Abu Musa al-Ash'ari, who was reciting the Qur'an, unaware the Prophet ﷺ was listening. Moved by what he heard, he later told him: "You have been given a mizmar from among the mazamir of the family of Dawud."

That is the standard we have named our institute after — not only to memorize the Qur'an, but to recite it beautifully, with a voice that moves hearts the way Abu Musa's recitation moved the heart of the Prophet ﷺ himself.

Our Mission

Mizmaar exists to pass on the Qur'an exactly as it has always been passed on — from a qualified teacher to a devoted student, one on one — the way it has been done for over 1,400 years. We begin with two programs running side by side: our Full-Time Hifz Program and our Ijazah & Sanad Program, reserved for those who show the discipline this certification demands. We will also offer a dedicated Art of Recitation program (Tilawah Mujawwadah), and as Mizmaar grows, Arabic language instruction and a Tafseer program for Huffaz.

Why Our Method Is Different

The Qur'an was never preserved through recordings — it was preserved through a living chain of teachers, generation after generation. A video or audio file cannot correct a student's mistake in real time or pass on direct authorization. Only a qualified teacher, sitting with a student, can do that. Our founder's own Sanad contains just 29 narrators between him and the Prophet ﷺ, regarded as one of the highest, most direct chains of our time.

Adab, Virtue, and Steadfastness

Memorization and a sound Sanad are only part of what we aim to give our students. Just as important is the adab of the Qur'an — the manners, respect, and sincerity with which a student approaches it. At Mizmaar, we want our students to see the Qur'an not as an achievement to complete, but as a lifelong companion.
